A conversation with my dad
by magotan ini talked to my dad today, after i text him when i was angry after a night out.
i'm starting to get closure on my parents relationship with regards to me.the dynamic between them versus me is abusive.
my dad didn't think i had any reason to be bitter.he said i chose to leave "jehovahs people" and this is what i should expect as treatment.

My mom especially, is the same way. In her 60's, the end hasn't come, never thought her children would have children... doesn't believe most what the GB is saying. Yet- where else should she go? My siblings think they are scared-lost-and don't know what to believe while facing the last 10/15 good years of their life. -

Perhaps your neighbor at the end of the block was shoveling snow. They aren't too old, mid-60's, but you are a decade or two younger, but they are having an obviously difficult time. You are late to meeting/service, do you keep driving by because you're on your way to meeting? Or, as an act of loving your neighbor (yes the neighbor at the END of the street, not the one literally next door) do you stop and help out?
I would guess the average JW is not going to stop. They can't count time and JWs would not understand their tardiness for being neighborly.

You don't meet 'everyone' in the ministry. You meet people who are at home in your specific territory. What about people you meet at the grocery store, an older women in need of help, a poor homeless man standing outside? You're not in the ministry so you don't help. Now, if you were in the ministry, a JW would give them a tract and move on. Actual aid. Oh, thats what the 'kingdom' is for.
If I considered my husband my closest neighbor, the average person with half a brain would give me some serious side eye.

Is your wife awake?
We know quite a few people who have gotten pregnant easily into their 40's with IVF. My husband is in medical and its pretty common now, a lot of women are waiting due to careers not a religious cult to have kids well in to their 40's. We live in a metropolitan city so that may be part of it. I wish you the best!

"If I wasn't born a JW, I would never have become one."
by OneEyedJoe ini've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.

From when I was a teenager, i openly said I wouldn't have been a JW if I wasn't raised one. I didn't say this or mean it in a rebellious or hostile way-- just the preaching/door knocking work and the message wouldn't have appealed to me. I always thought, 'we each are born in to our own truth' as in the religion of ones parents is always the 'right' religion. -

New here
by MarkofCane inhello and thanks to everyone for participating on this forum it has really been of much value, for those of you that post here know that your words are not lost you never know who is reading your expressions, lives are being changed and nonsense challenged.
i’m not much of a writer so excuse my untrained writing style and grammar but i want to share my story to help anyone who is visiting here to see that we are real people, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters who have come here for answers, there is no agenda, just searching for truth.
i hope my story will help others as so many here have helped me..

Warm Welcome. I would, along with others, would love to know more, without giving away identfying traits. Kids? Wife? Are they awake? Are you a servant?
I woke up August of 2014. The JW dot org craze was rampant, we were laughing about it and I did a google image search. It was a golden calf with people bowing down, inside was a jw dot org logo. I clicked the image which brought me to a thread here. My world fell apart.
People here have amazing advice. Take it slow. Be pissed, breath, take it all in. A new life awaits you!

Jw style encouragement - Return or perish....
by Tornintwo ini haven't been able to post much recently, just started a new job with long hours... but i'm thinking of you all and drop in when i can.
anyway i've been meaning to tell you about this because thought it would tickle some of you.... 5 months after my last meeting, i've just had two "kind and loving" 'come back' messages/cards from different people both using the same days text from dec. 31st which says: .
"it is not a desirable thing with my father who is in heaven for one of these little ones to perish" matt 18:14. jehovah cares deeply about all those who have expressed love for his name, even if they are not actively serving him at present.

If that is how juvenile and petty God is, then I don't want to live forever, I would rather perish! I hate hearing this guilt/death/save you life nonsense. They "think" their helping, because they live with that fear- well guess what- You don't, you don't buy it and it doesn't effect you. Alas, they will never see. So frustrating -

The Retractable Dangling Carrot
by TMS insome scattered thoughts about the granting or denial of privileges of service as a control mechanism:.
this method of persuasion involving reward or punishment is so deeply ingrained in watchtower function, it is second nature.
although sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant, everyone from new bible study to traveling overseer is subconsciously aware of the possible limiting of his official opportunities to serve god and his brothers.. .

Great Post. 100% my dad, an amazing/generous/successful man who views his worth through this F*&^ed up JW lense. Of course he isn't used as punishment for being successful-total control mechanism. -

No more reporting time for field service!!!
by Khaleesi inso at last i am in my next step of my fade, this month is the first month i did not turned in any hours.
i received a text from our group leader an ms & i told him i didn't have any to report, then of course it got bumped up to the elder & i text him back i have no hours to report for december.
i came to this decision when reading many posters here about the yearbook stats, i do not want & refused to contribute to this organization "boosting" numbers for their glorious purposes, after the rc in australia they do not deserve for me to give them a "production" report of what i do for god, no more.

Congrats! My motivation was also not to add to their data collecting. We have not turned in time for three months now. No calls, no nothing. So, after we received group texts regarding the RC and the hotel website, we blocked all the phone numbers of every JW in the area we know.
